Janine Tugonon's answer that put her to a first runner-up in the Miss Universe 2012 competition


It was a beautiful outcome happened in Miss Universe 2012 as our very own Miss Janine Tugonon almost got the crown where every woman desires.  Binibining Pilipinas Universe 2012 Janine Tugonon kept up the recent tradition of Philippines success in the Miss Universe pageant Following in the footsteps of her predecessors Venus Raj in 2010 and Shamcey Supsup last year, Janine not only made the Top 5, she was first runner-up in the Miss Universe 2012 competition in Las Vegas Wednesday evening.

20 -year-old, Cranston, Rhode Island cellist, Olivia Culpo Miss USA was crowned Miss Universe 2012.

Following Olivia Culpo and Janine Tugonon in the Top 5 were Miss Venezuela, Irene Sofiá Esser Quintero, Miss Australia, Renae Ayris and Miss Brazil, Gabriela Markus.

Janine not only looked stunning in the swimsuit and evening gown competitions, she knocked it out of the park with the question from judge, Nigel Barker.

“As an international ambassador do you believe that speaking English is a prerequisite to be Miss Universe? Why or why not?”

She answered, “For me being Miss Universe is not just about knowing how to speak a specific language, it’s about being able to influence and inspire other people. So whatever language you have as long as your heart is deserving and you have a strong mind to show to people, then you can be Miss Universe.”

Janine Tugonon was raised in the Bataan Province, where she grew up with her mother, sister and grandparents.

She is a pharmacy graduate from the University of Santo Tomas in Manila.
